Apple - 'Red Fuji' (Malus domestica) 25L

$105.00

The Red Fuji apple is a popular variety celebrated for its dense, exceptionally crisp texture and intense honey-like sweetness. Originally bred in Japan in the late 1930s (a cross between Ralls Janet and Red Delicious) and introduced in 1962. While partially self-fertile, you will get a significantly better yield if planted near cross-pollination partners like Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, or Pink Lady.

Fruit Colour: Dull pinkish-red to deep red blush over a yellow-green background skin
Fruit Shape: Medium to large.
Fruit Size: On average, a typical retail Red Fuji measures about 75 mm to 85 mm.
Flavour: Highly aromatic with a very sugary-sweet taste, low acidity, and hints of a delicate honey-pineapple flavor. Very firm, dense, crunchy, and exceptionally juicy.
Fruit Season: Mid-to-late season, typically ripening around April in the Southern Hemisphere.
Cropping Habit: Dwarf varieties generally live and produce fruit for 15 to 20 years under ideal conditions.

Best Uses: Fresh eating, lunchbox fruit, salads, light cooking. The high sugar content also makes it excellent for baking, juicing, and cider brewing

Light requirement: Full sun
Water requirement: Moderate

Watering frequency: Water twice a week during spring and summer fruit development, reducing to weekly or as-needed watering during winter dormancy.
Soil:‍ ‍ Rich, well-draining loam or sandy loam is ideal, high in organic matter with pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
Skill level: Beginner to intermediate
Growth rate: Moderate

Suitable for container gardens: Excellent. Its restricted root system allows it to thrive long-term in large pots, tubs, or half-wine barrels.

Mature Height: 6-9m
Mature Width: 6-9m

Seasonality: Deciduous

Drought Tolerant: Moderate once established
Frost Tolerant: Moderate; requires some winter chill for fruiting but tolerates light frost.
Wind Tolerant: Moderate; benefits from shelter during flowering

Leaf colour: Deep, vibrant forest green on the upper surface, while the underside is a noticeably paler, muted grey-green due to a very fine, fuzzy coating of tiny silver hairs (known as pubescence). In late autumn, the leaves turn yellow before dropping for winter.
Leaf Variegation pattern: No

Size of leaf: 7-10cm long and 4-6cm wide
