Grape- White Italia (Vitis vinifera) 200mm
White Italia (often simply called Italia) is a world-renowned, traditional seeded white table grape variety. Bred in Rome, Italy, in 1911 by crossing Bicane and Muscat Hamburg, it is celebrated globally as one of the most flavor-rich, traditional white table grapes. White Italia grapes are exceptionally versatile because they combine the crisp, firm texture of a premier table grape with the intense, floral-musky perfume of a Muscat variety. Because they hold their structural integrity well and release rich, aromatic juices, they excel across fresh culinary, processing, and backyard landscape applications.
Fruit Colour: Tough, light green to translucent golden-yellow skin.
Fruit Shape: Oval-shaped.
Fruit Size: Very large.
Flavour: Exceptionally crunchy, juicy, and sweet. Its standout trait is a distinct, highly aromatic, and slightly musky Muscat flavor profile inherited from its Black Muscat parent. It contains a few large seeds.
Fruit Season: A medium-to-late season ripening variety. In Australia, the clusters reach full flavor maturity in late summer to mid-autumn, typically harvested between late February and April.
Cropping Habit: It has very stable, high bud fertility and handles spur pruning beautifully. In late winter dormancy, last season's canes are cut back to short fruiting spurs containing 2 buds along a permanent wire framework
Best Uses: Fresh eating, cheese platters, savory and sweet salads, pan roasting with duck or pork, gourmet fruit tarts, frozen as cocktail ice cubes, table & dessert wine making, summer shade, boundary privacy.
Light requirement: Full sun, 6-8 hours to thrive, successfully mature fruit & maintain a healthy vine that produces sweet grapes.
Water requirement: Moderate to high. Always apply water directly to the soil using drip irrigation, a soaker hose, or a bucket. Because they have a deep root system, the golden rule for watering grapevines is deep and infrequent, rather than shallow and daily.
Watering frequency: Needs moderate, regular watering—especially during the peak growing and fruiting season.
Soil: Loose, deep, crumbly loam, sandy loam, or a mix containing gravelly elements.neutral to slightly acidic pH between 6-7.0.
Skill level: Moderate.
Growth rate: An incredibly fast-growing, vigorous, and robust deciduous climbing vine.
Suitable for container gardens: Use a 50cm-60cm wide and deep container (60-75L). Choose terracotta, half wine barrels, or light-colored resin pots and use structural support like a sturdy vertical trellis frame, heavy timber stake, or strong tomato cage directly into the pot at planting time. Secure the primary climbing stems to this frame to shield them from heavy winds.
Mature Height: 3-5m when trained onto a standard garden structure.
Mature Width: 2-3m
Seasonality: The fruiting and harvest seasonality for White Italia grapes spans from late summer to mid-autumn, with fruit ripening on the vine between late February and April in Australia
Drought Tolerant: Drought-tolerant once they are fully established
Frost Tolerant: Fully frost-tolerant when they are completely dormant during the winter.
Wind Tolerant: Moderate wind tolerance but require solid physical support and protective structural boundaries to prevent crop damage.
Leaf colour: Spring; bright, fresh lime-green. Summer; deep forest green. Autumn; glowing display of bright golden yellow, amber, and pale copper before shedding entirely for the winter months.
Leaf Variegation pattern: No.
Size of leaf: 15-35cm in length and width
