Grape- Ruby Seedless (Vitis vinifera) 200mm
Ruby Seedless (also known as King's Ruby) is an outstanding, late-mid to late-season red seedless table grape variety. Originating from California, it is a highly productive (forms exceptionally large, loose clusters) and popular backyard choice across Australia for extending the fresh grape harvest well into autumn. An incredibly fast-growing and robust deciduous climbing vine. Because of its energetic nature, it is highly favored for planting near large structures like boundary fences, outdoor arbors, or pergolas to provide deep summer shade.
Fruit Colour: Ranges from deep reddish-pink to a dark, ruby reddish-black.
Fruit Shape: Oval berries
Fruit Size: Medium-sized
Flavour: Features a crisp, firm, and fleshy texture with a rich, pleasant, and sweet flavor profile. The skin is quite tender, making it highly palatable right off the vine.
Fruit Season: A distinctly late-ripening variety. In Australia, it is typically ready for picking between March and April, making it a great follow-up option to grow alongside early summer grapes.
Cropping Habit: Exceptional natural productivity, heavy cluster development, and strong vegetative growth
Best Uses: Fresh eating, baking, cheese platters, homemade raisins, savory and sweet salads, summer shade, boundary privacy.
Light requirement: Full sun, 6-8 hours to thrive, successfully mature fruit & maintain a healthy vine that produces sweet grapes.
Water requirement: Moderate to high. Always apply water directly to the soil using drip irrigation, a soaker hose, or a bucket. Because they have a deep root system, the golden rule for watering grapevines is deep and infrequent, rather than shallow and daily.
Watering frequency: Needs moderate, regular watering—especially during the peak growing and fruiting season.
Soil: Deep, loamy or sandy-loam soils that drain quickly and maintain a neutral to slightly acidic pH between 5.5 and 7.0.
Skill level: Moderate.
Growth rate: Fast, highly vigorous growth rate. While its rapid growth rate makes Ruby Seedless exceptional for quickly blanketing a bare backyard pergola or patio with lush summer shade, it requires strict management - severe annual winter pruning is mandatory.
Suitable for container gardens: Use a 50cm-60cm wide and deep container (60-75L). Choose terracotta, half wine barrels, or light-colored resin pots and use structural support.
Mature Height: 2-5m when trained onto a standard garden structure.
Mature Width: 2-3m
Seasonality: The fruiting and harvest seasonality for Ruby Seedless grapes spans from late summer to mid-autumn, with fruit ripening on the vine between February and April in Australia.
Drought Tolerant: Drought-tolerant once they are fully established
Frost Tolerant: Fully frost-tolerant when they are completely dormant during the winter.
Wind Tolerant: Moderate wind tolerance but require solid physical support and protective structural boundaries to prevent crop damage.
Leaf colour: Spring; bright, pale chartreuse green. Summer; rich, vibrant medium green. Autumn; glowing mix of golden yellow, bright amber, and deep copper-red before shedding entirely for the winter months.
Leaf Variegation pattern: No.
Size of leaf: 15cm in length x 12cm in width.
