Grape- Crimson seedless (Vitis vinifera) 200mm

$50.00

Crimson Seedless grapes are a highly popular, late-season red table grape variety known for their crisp texture, firm flesh, and remarkably sweet yet subtly tart flavor profile. Originally developed in 1979 by the USDA breeding program in California, and released to the public in 1989, they have become one of the most widely grown red grape varieties globally and are a staple in Australian supermarkets.

Fruit Colour: Bright pinkish-red berries, occasionally showing light greenish streaks
Fruit Shape: Cylindrical-oval
Fruit Size: Large
Flavour:‍ Boasts an excellent balance of high sugar content countered by natural acidity, giving them a rich, sweet, and bright taste. Notable for their thick, chewy, and tough skin which shields crisp, juicy, translucent flesh
Fruit Season: February to May
Cropping Habit: Crimson Seedless grapes are strictly cane-bearing. To get a successful harvest, do this during Winter; select two to four strong, year-old canes, cut them to about 8 to 12 buds long, and tie them horizontally to trellis wires.
Best Uses: Because they do not bruise easily and hold their firm structure under heat or freezing temperatures, they are highly versatile in baking, cheeseboards and freezing.

Light requirement: Full Sun. Minimum of 6 to 8 hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight daily.
Water requirement: Moderate to high. Always apply water directly to the soil using drip irrigation, a soaker hose, or a bucket. Because they have a deep root system, the golden rule for watering grapevines is deep and infrequent, rather than shallow and daily.

Watering frequency: Needs moderate, regular watering—especially during the peak growing and fruiting season.
Soil: Deep, well-draining soil with a neutral pH of 6.0 to 7.0.
Skill level: Moderate.
Growth rate: Fast; capable of putting on 2-4m of new vine growth in a single growing season under ideal conditions. Leaving too much wood on the vine during winter will slow down the growth rate of individual shoots. Hard winter pruning acts like a reset switch, triggering fast, explosive shoot growth come spring.
Suitable for container gardens: Because they are a highly vigorous, cane-bearing variety, they will easily outgrow small pots, meaning success depends entirely on choosing a massive container and managing a strict pruning schedule.

Mature Height: Varies depending on support structure. For example, on a standard Trellis Fence, the vine is typically kept at 1.5-1.8m high. Grown on a pergola or Patio Roof allows growth from 2.4-3m high & ability to walk under the canopy while the grape bunches hang down. In a container and kept strictly to the height of stakes or tripod frame, usually capped at 1.5 to 2m to prevent the pot from becoming top-heavy and blowing over in summer storms.
Mature Width: Varies.

Seasonality: Late-summer to mid-autumn harvest (February to May), with peak availability and the best eating quality occurring in March and April.

Drought Tolerant:‍ Drought-tolerant once they are fully established
Frost Tolerant: Highly frost-tolerant during their winter dormancy period. The critical danger zone for a Crimson Seedless vine is early spring'; as the weather warms up, the dormant buds swell and break open to push out tender new green shoots and leaves.
Wind Tolerant: Moderately wind-tolerant, but they require a strong structural support system and a sheltered location to produce high-quality fruit.

Leaf colour: Spring; bright, pale green with bronzed or pinkish-red edges. Summer; vibrant, bright green. Autumn; fiery autumn hues of bright red, crimson, burgundy, and orange before dropping off for the winter.
Leaf Variegation pattern: No.

Size of leaf: 12-20cm in length and width once fully mature.
